Property Value

If this home is not your forever home, you may find yourself putting it on the market in the future. Having marble or any stone features will likely increase the value of your home. Of course, whatever stone features you have either need to be new or well taken care of. Stone upgrades are often highlighted in home listings and focused on by realtors when showing a home. Adding marble or stone features to your home is something to consider if you are thinking about selling or even if you plan on keeping your home for some time.

Withstand Heat

One of the great things about having marble countertops in your kitchen is that they can handle large amounts of heat. Kitchens get hot. With the stove and the oven, hot pots, and dishes, the marble will not warp or change color. Even in the bathroom, a marble countertop won't turn yellow if you lay a hot curling iron on it. It is also a good choice for fireplace surrounds or benches.

Cons:

Affordability

Marble is not cheap, but beauty rarely is. If you want elegance and sophistication, you are going to have to pay for it. For some, that might be an easy expense, but for most of us, it isn’t. You should shop around to find a slab of marble in the right style and price range. It may be more affordable than you think.

Needs a lot of care

As with most things that are pretty, marble does need some upkeep and care. Well, not a lot but more than other materials. Marble is porous, so it absorbs liquids quickly. This isn’t a good thing if you have marble in your kitchen. If you want marble, you need to take care of them; or they will stain easily. And once marble is stained, the stain is almost impossible to remove. Marble needs to be protected by a sealer upon installation and again every couple of years or so. Along with staining, it can be chipped, cracked, or scratched.

May break down over time

While marble is beautiful, it can break down over time. This is especially true if it is not properly cared for. Kitchen countertops get a lot of daily use, and if you don’t take care of them, then that wear and tear will show.
